Students express thier creativity through film with the 2010 Secondary Schools Short Film Festival

The Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (TTFC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Movie Towne, The Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport of the Tobago House of Assembly, First Citizens and the Unit Trust Corporation are pleased to announce the hosting of the Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools Short Film Festival in 2010. The Festival was launched on Monday 12th July 2010 with over three-hundred and forty-four (344) students and teacher representatives at Cinema #1, Movie Towne and served as an ‘orientation’ for participating students in attendance.
This year, the Secondary Schools Short Film Festival has experienced a one hundred percent (100%) increase in the participation of secondary schools over the 2009 competition, with forty-three (43) groups registered from thirty-four (34) schools. Schools will be participating from as far as Vessigny, Moruga, Rio Claro, Marabella and for the first time in the event’s history - Tobago.
All participating students will be split into geographic zones (North, North/East, Central, South, Point Fortin and Tobago) for training. During the three days of sessions from 13th to 15th of July, registered students will be trained by qualified local film professionals on script-writing, story board creation, production and editing. Trainers will be accessible to all students during the two (2) month period during which their five (5) minute film will be created. All scripts submitted for the Festival have been based on three identified themes: A Day in Your Life, Keeping The Environment Clean and Trinidad And Tobago Culture.
Awards will be granted to successful groups including; an award for most original film, the best technical film, best story, best actor, best actress, most dramatic film, best editing, best director, best comedic film, and an award for best overall film.
The Secondary Schools Short Film Festival in 2010 will also include the screening of all forty-three (43) student films to audiences during the two week period of the annual Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival (September 22nd to October 5th). Screenings will be rotated through all three Movie Towne venues: Chaguanas, Tobago and Port of Spain.
