Opportunities for training in film come to Trinidad through the Caribbean Travelling Film School

Please be advised that that requests for entry into the Caribbean Travelling Film School programme are no longer being accepted.

With the financial contribution of the European Union (European Development Fund) and the assistance of the ACP Group of States, the Caribbean Travelling film School has launched a two year comprehensive film making program in the Caribbean.

The first phase of the program began in Barbados last August and the next phase is planned to be held in Trinidad later this year providing there is sufficient local interest. Up to forty (40) participants will undergo an eight (8) month series of intensive workshops in all aspects of film making and in the process produce a feature film for international screening. There are now twenty-one (21) Trinidad and Tobago nationals who have expressed interest in this training opportunity.

The program consists of workshops in screenwriting, pre-production, production, acting for screen, directing the actor, directing the camera, production design, sound recording, lighting, production tools, cinematography, editing and marketing & distribution. The workshops comprise over four hundred hours of training both in classroom and on set, taught by eminent visiting lecturers and the founding partners of the school.

Participation in the course is open to everyone but participants will be selected by the school, from the candidates that apply, by their demonstrated ability and willingness to complete all the workshops, including an internship on the film set. There is no other prerequisite for participation in the program, which is scheduled to begin in Trinidad in September, however unless there is sufficient interest from potential participants the program will be convened elsewhere.

Interested participants should contact the school or the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company for more information as soon as possible.

The first phase of the program in Barbados is in the process of being wrapped up and thirty eight registered participants were taught the skills necessary to produce a feature film and worked together as cast and crew under the direction of the creative team to complete it. Directed by Yao Ramesar and shot entirely in Barbados, the film, Stranger in Paradise, featuring Chinese actress Jiang Jie, Jamaican/Canadian actor, Bobby Dreadful and New York based St Lucian actress, Imoja is close to completion of principal photography and is already partially in post production.

The Caribbean Travelling Film School was founded through a partnership between Future Image Inc. of Barbados, Caribbeing Inc. of Trinidad and Tobago, Visual Domain of Barbados and the Israel Lovell Foundation of Barbados.
