Beauty Contestants Experience Film

Contestants in the Sea Lots One Love Movement Beauty Pageant were recently hosted by The Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (TTFC).

The ten contestants participating in the “Ten Thousand Flowers Bloom” Pageant, who ranged in ages from 12 -19, learnt of career opportunities within the T&T national film industry and viewed two films that touched on the issues of HIV/AIDS and Teenage Pregnancy.

Through the months of June, July and August, the TTFC has extended its Outreach programme to groups, vacation camps and childrens’ homes and has facilitated 176 students to date. Outreach participants leant more about locally produced films and animation and also had the opportunity to speak with a local film-maker. Local Producer Andre Johnson, currently enrolled in the UWI BA Film Programme, facilitated the session with the Pageant Contestants and it was well received.

The impact of the TTFC Outreach Programme is best expressed in the words of the Pageant Contestants who noted:

“It was very educational and I liked the entire presentation, especially how it was structured: Power Point presentations, Movies and Lectures.”

“I liked the fact that they (TTFC) got the message across by Film since everyone loves a great movie.”

“I think that I could teach children a lot from what I have learnt toady!”

The TTFC will continue its Outreach programme and collaborate with local animators and filmmakers to make learning about film an enjoyable experience for participants. Any school or group wishing to be a part of the Outreach Programme can contact TTFC at 625-3456 ext. 36 and/or info@trinidadandtobagofilm.com.
