THE TTFC LENDS
SUPPORT TO LOCAL
FILM PROJECTS
The Trinidad and
Tobago Film
Company (TTFC)
recently
presented Mr.
Jean-Michel
Gibert with a
cheque,
representing
equity financing
for the
production of
the documentary
“Rose, Calypso
Diva”. Calypso
Rose was there
to share the
moment as she is
the focus of the
film - an
intimate
portrait of her
life, her work
and her
accomplishments.
Jean-Michel
Gibert is the
first awardee
under the TTFC’s
Feature Film
Programme (FFP)
to commence
production of
this full length
documentary
“Rose, Calypso
Diva”. The FFP
provides equity
funding for the
production of
locally made
feature films
and offers
support,
mentoring and
monitoring to
ensure that
production
standards and
project delivery
are kept on
track.
The documentary
will be
submitted for
the Toronto
Documentary
Forum at the
2009 Hot Docs
Documentary
Festival in
Toronto, Canada,
carded for April
2009. The forum
affords the
opportunity for
selected
projects to be
presented to
international
broadcasters and
distributors who
will be in
attendance.
With other
successful
projects under
his belt
including Soca
Power and
Calypso@ Dirty
Jim’s, the TTFC
is certain that
Jean Michel
Gilbert has
another success
in the making.
The project goes
into production
in February 2009
and is expected
to be completed
by December
2009.
The TTFC also
provided
assistance to
Ms. Angel Ross,
lead actress in
Horace Wilson’s
“Happy Sad” to
attend the
screening of the
film at the
upcoming Pan
African Film
Festival to be
held in Los
Angeles, from
February 11 –
17th, 2009.
“Happy Sad” was
filmed on
location in
Tobago by Horace
Wilson, who is
best known for
producing the
local drama
series “Turn of
the Tide”. The
film is moving
family drama in
which the
talented Ms.
Ross made her
acting debut.
The TTFC wishes
Ms. Ross and the
film much
success at the
festival.
