TRINIDAD & TOBAGO LOOKS
TO FILM INDUSTRY FOR
ECONOMIC DIVERSITY
Trinidad & Tobago
Film Company (TTFC)
experiences growing
interest as a result of
cash rebate program,
aggressive marketing
efforts and increased
presence at AFM
Santa Monica, CA. –
November 2008 – The
Trinidad & Tobago Film
Company (TTFC) continues
its efforts to market
the destination and its
benefits to the film and
television industries
through a strong
presence at AFM 2008.
The dual island nation
has long been known as
the Caribbean’s economic
powerhouse due to
petroleum and natural
gas exports. With a view
towards creating
economic diversity, the
TTFC has been
aggressively marketing
the destination to the
film/television industry
as a viable location
option due to an
eclectic mix of
architecture, topography
and cultures, a strong
infrastructure, a 30%
cash rebate program and
a pro-active film
commission.
“We believe that
Trinidad & Tobago
possess a lot of the
components needed to
make the destination a
major player in the
entertainment industry,”
stated Carla
Foderingham, CEO of the
TTFC. “Some of our goals
as a film commission are
to show that Trinidad &
Tobago can provide
multiple location
options, has programs in
place to provide strong
on island support and
most important, be
fiscally beneficial to
the filmmaker.”
AFM 2008 provided a
platform by which the
TTFC could get their
message out to those
interested in filming
internationally.
Continuing to build on
last year’s initiatives,
the TTFC took space on
the 5th level atrium,
once again, but went one
step further by
sponsoring the
Filmmakers Lounge at Le
Merigot and
participating on a panel
discussing incentives
internationally. “The
feedback was
tremendous,“ commented
Foderingham. “There
seems to be a genuine
interest in the
destination and the cash
rebate program has been
very well received.
While here, we received
news that one of the
first filmmakers to
receive the rebate just
won his fourth award at
the Orlando Film
Festival for his film
Contract Killers.
Everywhere we turn the
feedback is positive and
exciting.”
